I live in one of the last of the wellfare states. We in OCCUPY CANADA have chosen to occupy our public spaces for a singular purpose; we wish to remain a wellfare state. In the years since the Great Recession, we haven’t been forced onto the streets. We haven’t all become unemployed. We haven’t had our futures stolen.

Not yet.

This OCCUPY movement is somewhat more than a collection if desperate souls. We as Canadians reserve the right to occupy that which we believe in. To make it clear that we stand for the common human, and that we will not stand for the stripping of our rights in favour of a bigger paycheque for the rich ones. We also reserve the right to defend the rights of our southern siblings to their lives, liberties, and the continued struggle for happiness. We have seen the signs of the enslavement of even the people furthest north of the world to this insanity of greed.

Let us rise above the insanity. Let us occupy the great spaces of the world with love. Even if it’s only for the moment.

And if we cannot love, let us fight.
